Trimester 2 update

Published Dec. 16, 2020, 4:05 p.m.

¡Hola familias!
Buen trabajo a todos los estudiantes -- everyone did a great job transitioning to our hybrid Spanish class during Trimester 1.  I've enjoyed getting to know my students, and seeing their progress in their Spanish skills, both in class and beyond!

During Trimester 1, we began with our story unit, learning and creating a class story about a boy who wants an empanada!  Students practiced all 4 language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing throughout this unit.  We finished the trimester learning and practicing numbers up to 1,000 and beyond. Students learned that if they know the numbers 1-10, they can build up to.  In Trimester 2, we will expand our conversation repertoire with personal questions, and talking about things we like and don't like to do.  We will also begin a cultural study of Peru, which will continue throughout the rest of the year.

***During Trimester 2, students should be completing their REMOTE WEEK Spanish work during the Spanish class time on their schedule.  This will ensure that all work is completed on time, and that it is seen as mandatory "classwork" rather than "homework."

I am available for Extra Help every Tuesday / Thursday 2:15 - 2:40 and every Wednesday 1:50 - 2:35.  Students should click my Zoom link during those times if there are any questions about the day's work!

As always, please be in touch with any questions or concerns!  I look forward to continuing to work together to ensure a successful year in Spanish!

¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español! (Welcome to Spanish class!)

¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español!  This year will be an interesting one, and I am looking forward to learning Spanish together, both in class and virtually!

In Trimester1, students will expand their vocabulary from elementary Spanish.  Students will complete a story unit, through which they practice listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Students will use a variety of iPad apps to enhance their language experience. In 6th grade, students will create will work a world language portfolio that will travel with them through high school so that they can see their personal growth along their language learning journey.
