Chem A - Finish Gas Density and MM Worksheet

2019-2020

Chemistry (A)

Date Due

Feb. 27, 2020

Additional Info
  • You should now be done reading Chapter 11 in the text.
  • Complete the 2-sided worksheet posted on OneNote. Be sure to show equation used, substitution step (with labels), and answer --- if you want to receive full credit.  Note that you may need to convert grams into moles by using the molar mass!  Use the empty space to the SIDE; don't try to "squeeze" answers between the Qs.
  • HINT #1: if you are using the typical R value, then your volumes must be in L (not mL or cm3), pressure must be in atmospheres (not mm), and T must be in Kelvins.
  • HINT #2: If you are trying to solve gas density or MM problems with conditions not at STP, you might be glad to know the following relationships. (MM means 'molar mass' and g is mass in grams.) Substituting "g/MM" in place of "n" or 'moles' gives us PV = (g/MM) R T or... solving for MM gives us:
  • MM = gRT/(PV)
  • gas density, d = g/V = MM*P/(RT)
