Firegirl Chapter 8 & 9

2023-2024

Humanities 705

Date Due

Oct. 4, 2023

Additional Info
Today we focused on two main strategies when we read Chapters 8 & 9 of "Firegirl:
- Inferring the Big Idea of a story
- Determining importance

The Big Idea of a story is the author's message, their purpose for writing, what they want you to learn as a reader about the story. Big Ideas are always about something intangible ... like friendship, bravery, acceptance, integrity, honesty, etc.

We are almost halfway through the book, so we should be starting to form some ideas of what we think the author's Big Idea is.

If you were away today:
1. Listen to Chapter 8 of "Firegirl" (YouTube link is in the resources section).
2. Ask yourself: What do I think the Big Idea of "Firegirl" is going to be?
3. Write down the following statement and complete it in your Reading Practice notebook (or on a piece of paper if you don't have your notebook at home):
So far I think the Big Idea of "Firegirl" will be _________        because....
4. Then listen to Chapter 9 in preparation for tomorrow's lesson.
